About the Author
Brian Kenny has been teaching since 2007 both in Ireland and internationally. Having made his first radio documentary in 2005 with RTE Radio 1 he has worked freelance since then, producing regular pieces for Newstalk, RTE Radio 1, Highland Radio, Mid-West Radio and Northern Sound. The majority of his work focuses on the issues facing the developing world and has taken him all over Africa, Asia and Central America. Teaching and Media are Brian’s two big passions so combining them seemed a natural fit and this ultimately led to him producing this development education project utilising multimedia resources. Brian’s connection with Serve and the Redemptorists goes back to 2010 when he traveled to Haiti with Fr. Gerry O Connor to make a radio documentary for RTE Radio 1 which focused on the aftermath of the devastating earthquake a year on.
Using the Resource
There are six lessons in total – three on each of the projects and they cover a wide range of themes spanning across the curriculum. The lesson plans all contain resources specially produced on location in Zimbabwe ranging from videos to audio interviews and photographs. These resources are intended to personalise the lesson plans and give context for the students by bringing the topics to life.
The supporting resources (audio, video, photo) for each of the Lesson Plans can be found below.
