From Addiction to Ambition

Prince’s Journey to a New Future in Zimbabwe

In the quiet rural town of Mount Darwin, Zimbabwe, a young man named Prince Simbarashe Majacha is rebuilding a life he once thought was lost.

Today, Prince is a dedicated father and husband, working hard to save for his dream — opening a car repair garage to provide for his family and serve his community. But his path here has been anything but easy.

A Life on the Brink

Not long ago, Prince was struggling under the weight of addiction, hopelessness, and despair.

“Young Africa became my rehabilitation. I stopped using drugs, inspired by the lessons and the focus I saw in my peers. In Entrepreneurship, I learnt that every dollar I make can build a future. Life Skills taught me discipline, hope, and how to walk away from the streets that almost destroyed me.”

A New Chapter

Prince’s transformation is a testament to the power of second chances.

“Today, I’m a better son. A better husband. A better father. I am determined to be someone my son can look up to.”

He is now working towards earning his Journeyman Class 1 certificate and dreams of running a thriving garage in Dotito, fixing cars and selling spare parts to support his family and community.

“To the youth out there: don’t be afraid to start over. To Young Africa: thank you for saving my life.”

The Bigger Picture

Prince’s story is one of many. In Zimbabwe, poverty, unemployment, and a lack of opportunity are key drivers of drug abuse among youth. The Skills for Youth Resilience Programme is helping address these root causes by equipping young people with practical skills, personal development, and the belief that change is possible.

Together with our partners, SERVE in Solidarity and Irish Aid, we are supporting vulnerable youth like Prince to reclaim their futures and inspire others to do the same.
