Young Africa Sports day
On Saturday the 18th of July, the SERVE volunteers alongside Young Africa staff and students hosted the largest and most successful sports festival to date at the Dondo Agri-tech campus. With a total number of 350 children, instead of the anticipated 200, the day proved to be even more action packed than expected.
We ended up with twenty teams competing in five different activities: tug of war, a dancing competition, races, a football blitz, and an obstacle course. Face painting and games were arranged for the younger children who were too small to compete. With prizes at stake, competition was fierce not only between the teams, but also between the adult team leaders. Every point earned was celebrated: jumps of joy, cartwheels, shouting, dancing.
The energy, excitement and enthusiasm was contagious! The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all, ending with singing and dancing after the winning team had been crowned. The following pictures are snapshots, giving you a small insight into the sports day.
